Earlier today, Howard University announced it’s 2014 commencement speaker, and it’s none other than former student, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.
On May 10th, Combs will not only give the commencement speech, but he will also receive an honorary doctorate in humanities.
“We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker,” said interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick. “His entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence.”
Combs dropped out of Howard in the 80s, but went on to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in entertainment business. Combs got his start as an intern at Uptown Records, but after being terminated, he went on to build his own Bad Boy Records.
Along with Combs, CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer, Howard University professor of surgery Dr. Clive Callender, jazz legend Benny Golson and PepsiCo Inc. chief executive Indra Nooyl will also receive honorary degrees.
