Alyssa Funke, was a 19-year-old girl who was taunted on Facebook and Twitter after a video of her surfaced on the amateur porn site CastingCouch-X. The online harassment might have prompted her to take her own life.  Funke was a college freshman at University of Wisconsin-River Falls, but received the brunt of her harassment from former high-school classmates.

In her CastingCouch video, Funke who describes herself as African-American and Native American, is seen speaking in an interview type session, before performing on camera. Former classmates found out about the video and started harassing her on Twitter and Facebook.

One student tweeted, “Nothing brings a school together like a porn star who graduated last year. I guess you could say news spreads fast here at Stillwater hahah.”

From My Fox Twin Cities:

Alyssa responded with her own tweets, “famous for dayzzz” and “pornstar status, a-okay” — but everything was not okay. Two weeks after the video was posted online, on April 14, Alyssa bought a 12-gauge shotgun, drove to a picturesque boat landing on Big Carnelia Lake and killed herself. She was only 19 years old.

Alyssa’s family did not want to speak on camera, and it’s easy to understand why — but they did tell the Fox 9 Investigators that although Alyssa had struggled with depression from time to time, they believe the taunts on social media played a significant role in her suicide.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating her death, but detectives don’t believe the postings on social media constitute criminal harassment and a spokesperson for Stillwater High School says they haven’t received any complaints or reports of bullying — but they point out, correctly, that Alyssa was no longer a student of theirs.

Yet, her classmates at UW-River Falls say they have little doubt about what drove her to suicide.

“A lot of people are really negative — troll-y — about it or standing up and saying it shouldn’t happen to people,” Katrina dodge said. “Sad it’s still happening, actually.”

Even a month after Funke’s suicide, the video remains online and people are now trolling her page and leaving nasty comments.  Fox 9 Investigators informed Casting Couch Video that Funke had killed herself, but the news network says the company have not returned phone calls or e-mails and have not answered why they continue to keep that video online.

It does seem in the last 6 or so years. It is more hate, all ty0pes. Adult bullying, skin pigment hate even more. And now matter what no one says to try to help, build up, apologize, explain, what ever it is all the same response no one cares. And some the same ones here sympothetic commented on another article when a man said or reworded how he meant what he said since some can not understand things unless you word it different. They attack him and say what? Oh he trying cover it up. They are such mind readers that is why they have played the lottery and are millionares right? It is disgusting to see the two face of some. This is a tragedy for this young girl. But we try to tell all what see how society acts so when you put your self out there you are prepared. Or know where to turn for support to do what you got to do.

This is never an easy subject to approach and we can all comment for days, but the reality is bullying is cannot be stopped…we can only hope to slow it’s progression. Bullying is an epidemic spreading faster than wildfires. While it’s a joined effort to reduce incidences of bullying, it’s even a greater effort to be an individual and not contribute to it. We really do live in a time of no affection for another person. To think that someone would still look and comment so hatefully about this young woman, is deplorable. Words are so powerful and influential to our development and our outlook and we can see how it sadly can play out. We never know a person’s home situation, their mental state and how they cope with these factors.

The next time we think of bashing someone because they are different in either word or deed, let’s remember we share collectively in their well-being or demise.

My company once was dedicated to ‘Stop Bullying’ but it’s not a realistic goal. We decided to focus more on the individual. When you can divert negative behaviors and give young people an avenue and platform to express and to just be, it’s an amazing transformation and a reduction in the incidents of bullying.

Why do people always seem to think that someone has mental health issues because they do porn? That’s not the case . I was 18 and I done a film too I am very embarrassed now don’t get me wrong and I would talk anyone out of doing something like this.. I am a very outgoing person and even though I’ve had a fair few nasty comments I just try to ignore it.. I have considered taking my own life because the harrasent was that bad but I am 27 now and I was 18 so it’s a long time ago but it is always there.. I worry when I have children how they will cope honestly it makes me live in fear of people finding out everyday.. I hate that people are quick to say oh she has mental issues etc that’s not the case I had a good life and good upbringing I have no mental issues never been abused I was just broke when I was 18 and it was before the internet got big and I suppose I thought I would get away with it but the internet got big and then I got found out.. It’s horrible .. If you was to meet me you would be shocked because I am a genuinely good person I have many friends who are totally fine with my past.. They know I don’t live there anymore I am happy with my boyfriend and life is good.. I have my ups and downs yes and it’s sad to read this I know how that girls feels and I do think something should be done about cyber bullies as they tried it with me .. Now I hold my head up high and I think so what who cares I am not a pedophile I’ve not hurt no one but myself .. I went back to studying I am a grad A student and studying medical science I don’t take drugs and I am happy I am turning my life around. Cyber bullies kids or not should be chastised because te way it makes you feel is horrific, suicidal ..so if people are going to do it to the point where someone looses their life then it should be delt with.. It’s a crime to harass.. I know this first hand… And people go on like they don’t have sex or make mistakes..people need to chill and relax and give people a break.. We all make mistakes …
