Jewelry-designer and avid reader Jaxon Barnes had a vision to connect mothers and daughters. Her love for journals and picture books inspired her to write “Kiley’s Purple Hat.”
“Kiley’s Purple Hat” tells the story of a little girl artist who spends a lot of time with her mother working on home projects. Kiley is fascinated with colors and patterns, which is reflected throughout the book. Barnes hopes Kiley encourages little readers of color to discover hues and textures and make something with their own little hands.
The artistic theme continues from the vibrant, illustrated pages of the book to its cover. It’s handmade – covered in purple fabric with foil-stamping with Singer-sewn sides. The book itself is touted as a unique work of art.
The husband and wife publishing team at Osaat Entertainment have launched a Kickstarter campaign to support printing costs and finally bring Kiley’s story to life.
“There are very few books about little girls who are artists and even fewer of them are girls of color. We decided to do something about that by publishing a story that promotes a positive role model for young girls,” the publishers write.
“This is a story that will make kids fall in love with reading while opening the door for them to be curious about art. “Kiley’s Purple Hat” is the type of book we would’ve loved to have when we were kids.”
