BET is pulling out all the stops to free itself from the entanglement of the Beygency. After Karrueche Tran’s 106 & Park guest hosting gig went awry when she dissed Blue Ivy’s hair on Monday’s show, the network’s president of music programming and specials Stephen Hill took to Twitter to apologize on the behalf of the network and Karrueche, who also released a statement expressing regret for her part in the incident. Now Billboard reports that BET has suspended a producer over the joke, proving that there was, in fact, some truth to the rumors that 106 & Park would take a one-week hiatus as a result.
Reportedly, an anonymous source confirmed the suspension, but BET has yet to publicly comment. The offensive remarks about Blue Ivy’s hair struck a nerve considering the target is a defenseless 2-year-old, not to mention the cultural implications behind the joke. This definitely hasn’t been BET’s best week ever, but hopefully they’ll be more responsible in the future so as to avoid becoming the butt of their own joke.
