The Carters and their beautiful daughter Blue Ivy

Hip-hop’s royalty — The Carters — has been criticized and ridiculed for the hair care or lack thereof Blue Ivy’s mane.

From the bold and brash petition created by Jasmine Toliver to the many comments gone viral, it seems as if people have nothing more to do then to blast a two-year-old’s hair. To make matters worse, a scriptwriter at BET deemed it appropriate to poke fun at Blue Ivy.

Karrueche Tran, who was a guest host on “106 & Park,” had the misfortune of reading the one-liner, which referenced the adorable toddler. The buffoonery sparked a national outrage. While the Beygency went to work on Tran, Stephen G. Hill, the President of Music Programming and Specials at BET, was forced to publicly apologize.

In response to the backlash, Hill tweeted:

Tran also apologized to the Carters and the Beyhive via Instagram.

Past two days have been extremely draining.. As I geared up for a big day for myself – hosting a live show.. I never expected things to turn out this way.. I apologize to any and everyone who felt offended in any way by the comments made by BET executed through me.. I would never disrespect anyone’s child in any way and anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Beyoncé. My comments have been in complete shambles.. yes I am human too and yes I do make mistakes.. But all this negativity and death wishes are quite a lot.. Definitely a lesson learned from here forth.. Again, on behalf of MYSELF, my sincerest apologies. #BeyHive

In an open letter written by Aliya S. King, she eloquently writes:

When Jasmine Toliver created her now infamous change.org petition to get Beyoncé to “understand the importance of hair care” and “properly care for Blue Ivy’s hair,” it hit me in the solar plexus. I knew it was a joke. (Ha-ha, let’s criticize a two-year old!) But I couldn’t find the humor in it at all. Because in the ‘70s and ‘80s, I was Blue Ivy.

Before blowouts, relaxers and/or leave-in conditioners, I’m sure both you and I were once Blue Ivy running free and enjoying being a toddler. I’m sure many of you are still Blue Ivy. Is hair care important? Of course. Is Blue Ivy neglected? Absolutely not.

Instead of poking fun at someone’s child, let’s focus on matters that affect our community. More importantly, we all can attest this was no laughing matter.

I guess we now know why The Carters rarely attend a BET Awards Show.
