samira-wiley-435After two years of holy matrimony, “Orange is the New Black” writer Lauren Morelli files for divorce.

Morelli, who began as one of the head writers for “Orange is the New Black” five months after saying “I do,” revealed writing about sexuality encouraged her to examine her own feelings and sexuality. The divorce is an amicable decision between both Morelli and soon-to-be ex-husband Steve Basilone.

Morelli has decided to lead an openly gay life and is currently dating Samira Wiley. Wiley is also part of the “Orange is the New Black” family and plays Poussey Washington.

In a self-reflection piece published on PolicyMic, Morelli discussed how writing for Netflix’s hit series gave her the confidence to come out of the closet, so to speak.

She wrote:

As I watched Taylor Schilling [Piper Chapman] and Laura [Alex Vause] film the scene, one of our producers (as it happened, a gay woman) tapped me on the shoulder. She pointed at the screen and gave me a thumb’s up. It was a small gesture, but my first step toward feeling accepted and quietly accepting myself. In Piper and Alex, I’d found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like.

    Garbage in, garbage out
    It’s without a doubt

I was surprised to hear this. It’s interesting how some people are jumping down Morelli’s throat for being the closet and lying but at least she had the courage to come out and not live lie and give credence to her true self…and not give her partner an STD because she couldn’t be honest with herself.

I don’t feel to bad for her ex-husband. These kinds of things happen to women quite often and we grin and bare it. Men should too.

Good luck to the cute couple.

that ain’t true. the whole dl drama came out of women not biting their tongues over dudes pulling this kinda stunt. it’s wrong both ways.

Only a gay couple could get away with this. She’s good looking but I seen better.
