Give me five on the Black hand side! Marvel Studios has announced one of their next superhero movies will be Black Panther, featuring the phenomenal Chadwick Boseman (42 and Get on Up). This will be Marvel’s first movie where there is a lead Black superhero. The Guardian reports, “The first major Black superhero ever, he first dropped in to help out The Avengers in the 1960s comic books, in the aforementioned supporting-man style. But he was then given an epic canvas with Panther’s Rage, a 200-page tale across multiple issues that dealt with his struggle against violent antagonists in the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The next story arc saw him travel to the US to fight the Ku Klux Klan.”  The movie is set for a November 2017 release.

you’re effing awesome for putting me on to this!

  • This is great news, but this does not make Chadwick Boseman the first black lead in a superhero movie. Before him there was Michael Jai White as “Spawn” and Wesley Snipes as “Blade” both in the nineties – gotta do your research before you make a claim like that.
