Julianne Hough dresses up as Crazy Eyes from 'Orange is the New Black' as she attends the Casamigos Tequila halloween party in Hollywood

In 2013, Julianne Hough thought it would be a good idea to dress-up as “Crazy Eyes” from Orange Is The New Black.

Hough would have been just fine orange costume and Crazy Eyes hair, but she decided to take it one step further and go in blackface.

Two years later, Hough realizes it probably wasn’t such a good idea. Hough, who was raised Mormon, told Allure magazine that it was a learning experience.

“Ignorance is sometimes not bliss…It was all out of fun and respect for the character. I don’t even know how to talk about it because it’s such a sensitive topic. It makes me so sad to think that I was that dumb. I learned a big lesson,” Hough stated.

It’s always amazing how people learn blackface is offensive after the fact.

At the risk of being accused of caping for a white woman, Hough may honestly have not known it was offensive because whites have the option of living their lives without thinking of us. Clearly, there are many many times when blackface is meant as a clear insult, but I think it is possible for a white person to clueless because we just don’t figure in their lives.

I don’t think you’re caping. You bring up a valid point. Call me shallow but I get that stereotypical “dumb blond” vibe from her. It doesn’t excuse her ignorance, however.

      Moving on….

I agree, ignorance is no excuse for racist insults.

I’m surprised that she is still talking about this.
