Miyamoto Eriana was born to a Black father and Japanese mother and she never thought she’d actually win the spot to represent Japan in this year’s Miss Universe Pageant. Eriana, who was born and raised in Nagasaki, beat out 44 other contestants.
“I thought ‘I wonder if a hafu like me would be okay’ and had insecurities,” Miyamoto said. “I think the world pageant will be a bit more vigorous, but I want to be myself and try my best.”
Eriana was educated in the U.S. but moved back after graduating college. Outside of modeling, Eriana has interesting hobbies such as working with heavy tools and motorcycles.
