Former New England Patriots’ star Aaron Hernandez was found guilty Wednesday of first degree murder and faces a penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He was also found guilty  of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to those in the courtroom, when the verdict was read, Hernandez appeared upset, looked over at his crying mother and fiancée and mouthed, “It’s ok”.

Hernandez was on trial for the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in a park. According to Hernandez’s attorney  his client “witnessed” Lloyd’s killing, “committed by somebody he knew,” and that the former NFL player “really didn’t know what to do, so he put one foot in front of another” and moved on with his life.

And now he’ll use those feet to walk back into a jail cell and remain there for quite some time.

I was truly suprised that Aaron was convicted of Lloyd’s murder, to be honest with you. I thought Hernandez had fit the “Get outta Jail Free Card” membership: white-passing, good-looking, rich and well-known. Apparently not.
One other thing that pisses me is the lack of empathy that the ‘Average Janes/Joes’ have towards the victim’s family, when they say shit like ‘But what about (insert another form of injustice)?’… ‘They are trying to destroy this man and disrupt his livelihood.’ When the only thing that they know about this man is the fact that he used to be a pro-athlete.
