Comedic actor Tracy Morgan has spent most of his professional life giving other people something to smile about, but opening up for the first time about the tragic car accident that nearly claimed his life last year was no laughing matter.

Tracy sat down with Today Show host Matt Lauer for a brief interview this week where he shared details about his recovery process, being depressed and worrying about how he will regain the sense of humor that has brought laughter to the lives of many in the midst of dealing with such a difficult situation.

He also spoke on struggling to come to terms with the death of his friend James McNair who was killed in the accident, revealing that he often watches the footage from the crash to get a better understanding of exactly what happened.

He told Matt Lauer:

“Every day I would just watch the accident on YouTube, and one day I came across his funeral on YouTube, and I just…..I lost it for about a week.

I had to know what happened to my friend. I had to know. And I had to pay my respects. And that was my way.”

During the difficult sit down, he also spoke on his desire to get back to comedy and continue his career but said that his main objective right now is to focus on his physical and emotional healing process. You can watch the full interview below.

We will continue to keep Tracy in our prayers and look forward to seeing him back in his element whenever he’s ready.
