Just when Ms. Lauryn Hill was getting her groove back after stellar appearances in New York, Philly, and Los Angeles, the former Fugees frontwoman released a statement saying she’s canceling her upcoming London performance because she isn’t being allowed into the United Kingdom.
“I’ve been informed that I won’t be able to enter the UK for a period of time due to my past legal situation,” Hill wrote on Facebook. “For this reason I have to cancel my concert on July 15th. Know that I was looking forward to performing in London this summer, and that I appreciate all of my fans and supporters both in London, and throughout the UK. I look forward to seeing you again as soon as I’m able to.”
Apparently Hill’s “past legal situation” refers to her brief 2013 prison stint for tax evasion. According to the IRS, Hill failed to pay more than $1 million in taxes over the course of a decade, which landed her in federal prison for three months.
Although she’s served her time, and performed in London last year, it looks like Hill’s UK fans will have to wait a little longer to see her live.
