Just when we were worried BET was giving up on its pivot to high-quality, original programming after renewing UNCUT and letting Mara Brock Akil jump ship to Warner Bros. TV, the network seems to be getting back on track with the announcement of a new partnership with Black&Sexy TV.
Here at CLUTCH, we’re HUGE fans of Black&Sexy TV and the business they’ve built serving up well-written and produced shows for Black folks. We’ve written extensively about their popular web series, which include hits like That Guy, The Couple, The Number, and Yellow, and their deal with HBO. Now, BET is on board.
Three Black&Sexy TV series–RoomieLoverFriends, Hello Cupid, and Sexless–will be making the jump to BET, starting with the September 16 premiere of RoomieLoverFriends.
In case you didn’t peep the show online, RoomieLoverFriends follows the complicated relationship between a pair of roommates who tumble into bed and things between them get really awkward.
For years we’ve wondered why networks like BET hadn’t snapped up Black&Sexy TV’s shows, given their highly engaged viewers and fresh story lines, but it seems like the network’s finally caught on.
“We noticed Black&Sexy TV has a dedicated fanbase,” BET’s Pete Danielsen said. “Their fans’ obsession for this content mirrors the obsession our audience has for BET and our content.”
RoomieLoverFriends will premiere on September 16, at 11 p.m. ET.
