Erykah Badu threw some major shade at Iggy Azalea while on stage hosting the 2015 Soul Train Awards, which aired this past Sunday. In the opening monologue, Badu pretended to call people up inviting them to the show. “Uh yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea?” she said. “Yeah, hey. Oh no no no no, you can come, ’cause what you doin’ is definitely not rap.” The audience immediately exploded in half laughter and half “ohhhhh [snap] afterwards.

It’s no secret that many entertainers and listeners alike feel like Iggy Azalea doesn’t accurately represent hip hop. And there are a slew of reasons for that, sub par rhyming ability aside.

Do you think Erykah was wrong for doing Iggy this way?

Here’s the thing. If anyone is going to come for Iggy for being fake, then come for most of hip hop. Including black rappers who rap about being about the gang life when in reality their life is the complete opposite of what they rap about. Diddy, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and Meek Mills this list can go on and on, even Drake sometimes claims the thug life when he has no ounce of thug in him. If you’re going to go there then come for all for exploiting and perpetuating a stereotype.
