halle berry divorce interview

There’s been a lot of talk surrounding the announcement of Halle Berry’s voice. And by talk, a lot of bitter exes have resurfaced, and the typical “Halle can’t keep a man” comments.

On the heels of her divorce announcement, Berry spoke at the Jenese Center, an organization dedicated to domestic abuse victims. In her speech, she talked about the abuse her mother dealt with when she was a child and how it shaped her as an adult.

“I saw my mother battered and beaten many years of my life and I felt helpless,” Berry told the women in attendance. “And that’s what connects me to this organization. I have an understanding, a knowing. I feel like I have something that I can impart to these women. It seems like I’ve overcome it, but I really haven’t. In the quiet of my mind, I still struggle. So while I’m helping these women, I’m helping myself through it, too. And that’s largely why I’m here.”

Berry’s recount of the abuse she saw as a child, probably plays a huge role in the men she’s picked throughout her adult life. From getting hit allegedly by Wesley Snipes and Christopher Williams. To dealing with sex-addict Eric Benet, and alleged cheater David Justice. Not to mention Olivier Martinez, a man who thought it was ok to attack her ex Gabriel Aubry, and a taxi driver with a car seat. It’s apparent Berry could be dealing with some deep seeded issues herself.

In an interview with Extra, Berry spoke about her divorce and how she and her children are coping.

“I’m doing okay, I really am,” Berry told Extra. “I, I keep pushing”.

Whether or not Berry ever finds her true match, is something that we’ll never know. But as Berry told the women in attendance at the Jenese Center, you need to know when to leave a situation that doesn’t feel right for you and your kids.

I wish Halle the best. She is not alone because quite a few grow up in dysfunctional homes, witnessing and themselves being survivors of all manner of abuse due to addiction, cycles repeating or what have you. All you can do is strive to be the best person you can be, break the cycle, live learn and do better.

Poor Halle. Leave the girl alone.

And in the wake of Eddie Murphy announcing his 9th child with his 5th “Baby Momma” (number 1 was the only Wife) I hope some of us recognize the double standard going on here. I’ve heard no negative press about this announcement from him, or comments from people saying how troubled or mental unstable he is. Leave Halle be.

It’s great of Halle Berry to work with an organization that is dedicated to fight back against domestic violence. Domestic violence is a scourge and it should be eradicated. Regardless of what people think about Halle, she dropped many jewels in the interview from helping others to sharing bonds around human beings. Many people are going through what she is going through and it is right to fight against domestic violence and human trafficking. Like I have mentioned before, I wish the best for Halle Berry. People should allow Halle to live her own life. Community love is very important for any human being. Self love is vital in anyone’s life as well.

Language like, “can’t keep a man” is problematic at the very least. Halle is a Being that should be spending a lot of QUALITY time with SELF because at the end of the day, based on her results, she is CHOOSING the wrong male companions.
