Twenty-fifteen has been Viola Davis’ year. In addition to being on one of the most popular dramas on TV, ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, Davis took home an Emmy for her role as Annalise Keating and delivered a powerful speech that challenged Hollywood to be more inclusive. Now, the veteran actress graces the January cover of InStyle

In the article, which hits newsstands on Dec. 11, Davis talks about balancing being a wife, a mother, and one of the hardest working women in Hollywood.

“Taking care of a 5-year-old, cooking at home, and running to the set when you’ve had four hours of sleep, you don’t feel like a movie star,” Davis confessed to the mag. “Then, every once in a while, you put something on that makes you feel cute.”

While Davis says her personal style is nowhere near that of her primetime alter ego, she’s gotten more comfortable with herself–and her beauty–over the years.

“What’s released me most from the fear of aging is self-awareness,” she said. “I’ve never determined my value based on my looks or anything physical. I’ve been through a lot in life, and what has gotten me through is strength of character and faith.”
