Beyoncé has her heart set on winning an Oscar. According to The Sun, she plans on taking matters into her own hands by writing and starring in a film about Saartjie Baartman, a South African woman who was exploited in London freak shows against her will during the late 1700s and nicknamed Hottentot Venus because of her large bottom. Eventually, Saartjie became famous and has since become a symbol of the abuse shown towards black women’s bodies throughout history.

“Beyoncé is desperate to be taken seriously as an actress,” an undisclosed source apparently told the paper. “Even though she’s had a string of well-received movies, she still feels her breakthrough role is yet to come. She now wants to write a screenplay that gains her respect – and hopefully awards – from the film industry, and thinks Saartjie’s story could be her ticket.”
While she managed to score a Golden Globe nomination for her 2006 role as Deena in Dreamgirls, we all know there’s no such thing as ‘enough’ when it comes to Bey so it’s safe to say she won’t stop until she has that Oscar in hand.

  • Sadly, the emotions of black women are being used again as click bait. Internet marketing 101. People love hating Beyonce, people love loving Beyonce, black women feel a particular pain about their history. Lets exploit that and get more exposure!! This has been the game since 2008. The title of The Sun article alone is more disturbing than the idea of this film and speaks volumes about the response it will get from emotionally vacant people had it actually been real. The content in the article about Beyonce wanting respect and awards from Hollywood align more with the insecurity an inferiority of the author of the article than Beyonce’s on stage or off stage persona.
