Ashanti’s long, scary nightmare may be coming to an end. After being harassed by a crazed fan for over a decade, Devar Hurd was found guilty of felony stalking on Friday in a Manhattan courtroom.
This isn’t the first time Hurd has been convicted on a stalking charge. In 2009 he was found guilty of stalking Ashanti’s mom and manager Tina Douglas. At the time, prosecutors said Hurd would send NSFW images and text messages to Douglas asking her to pass them along to her daughter, with whom he was obsessed.
In 2015, Ashanti testified in court after Hurd was accused of violating protective orders and contacting the singer and her younger sister Kenashia on social media as well as showing up at events to get close to the pair.
At the time, Ashanti told the court she was afraid of Hurd.
“I”m really nervous and scared of exactly what he’s capable of doing to myself and my family,” she said.
After his latest conviction, Hurd faces up to four years in prison. However, because he’s been in jail since 2013 because of this case, he may be able to get out early.
