On Wednesday, the hip-hop world lost one of its greats. The founding member of A Tribe Called Quest, Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor) passed away at the age of 45.
The cause of death has not yet been revealed, Taylor had been struggling with health issues since being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, as well as having a kidney transplant.
Taylor co-founded A Tribe Called Quest with Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White. The group’s records, 1990’s People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, 1991’s The Low End Theory, and 1993’s Midnight Marauders, are considered hip-hop classics.
