According to witnesses, the area was filled with a large contingent of demonstrators who came to voice their displeasure against Trump’s outrageous rhetoric, which has often times been focused at protesters.

About 30 minutes after Trump was scheduled to appear, a member of his staff to appeared to tell the crowd the rally was canceled.

Trump’s campaign released a statement explaining the event was being postponed due to “safety concerns.”

Mr. Trump just arrived in Chicago and after meeting with law enforcement has determined that for the safety of all of the tens of thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena, tonight’s rally will be postponed to another date.

After the announcement, protesters cheered the cancellation.
