Beyond Classically Beautiful’s Body Noire photo series profiles five women with very different stories on how they’ve come to love and appreciate their bodies despite societal pressures and opinions. Author Christine Patrick, Artist Roseline Lawrence, Realtor Xiomara Small, Yoga Instructor Latarria Whitehead and Ballerina/Founder of #BalletAfterDark are all featured in the project.
The women each share their thoughts on society’s obsession with black features, what about their bodies they once strongly disliked and what they’ve learned along the journey of becoming the strong confident women they are today.
“There’s sort of always been this fascination with black women’s bodies. I think what’s beautiful now though is we have learned to celebrate and embrace ourselves,” says Christine Patrick, Author of “The Truth About Awiti.”
When asked what she would tell her younger self, Artist Roseline Lawrence says, “I would tell my younger self, ‘Girl you’re fine. You’re beautiful. You’re fierce. And just keep it moving.”
