29-year-old Dallas-based Designer Whitney Bracey was a swimwear maker who expanded over into leotards when she heard about the difficulties girls of color had finding ‘nude’ toned dance apparel. She launched Mahogany Blues Dance Apparel in response, a line that currently offers 3 shade of brown nude leotards and according to BuzzFeed, Bracey has two more slated for release before the end of this year.
She currently makes everything by hand but plans to begin mass producing as demand for her product has significantly grown and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Mahogany Blues Dance Apparel also sponsors dance studios, gifting kids with a Ballerina Care Package complete with a leotard to match their skin tone. They also provide dancers with polish to customize their too light nude pointe shoes.
We’re excited to see what’s in store for this amazing venture. Mahogany Blues Dance Apparel is gearing up to become every brown skin dancer’s one stop shop.
