MTV is honoring Rihanna with its Lifetime Achievement Award later this month at the MTV Music Video Awards.
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award is given to those artists with an impact on poplar culture and the arts in other artistic mediums beyond music.
The eight-time Grammy winner is to be recognized for her 61 million album sales and for her philanthropic endeavors. Rihanna is founder of the Clara Lionel Foundation, which works to improve health and cultural services in her home of Barbados and beyond.

Rihanna is following in the footsteps of past recipients that include Beyonce, Justin Timberlake as well as David Bowie, who received the award first in 1984.
The 2016 MTV VMAs will air live from New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, August 28 at 9 p.m. ET.
