In today’s ridiculous politics news, Jill Stein’s running mate Ajamu Baraka had the audacity to refer to President Obama as a “Tom” and didn’t try to clean up his statements when confronted about it.
Baraka said Obama “allowed his commitment to neoliberal policies and a neoliberal worldview to undermine the possibility of greatness”
“If we were concerned and serious about how we could displace white power, we had to demystify the policies and the positions of this individual,” Baraka said
Baraka said that he used the term “TOM” to shock people, and although it was inflammatory, he stands by it.
Stein told the Washington Post’s editorial board that she doesn’t plan on asking Baraka to apologize for using the term.
But Donald Trump’s, Jonathan Capehart, a Black member of the board, said the use of the term was inappropriate.
“Is that an appropriate way to talk about the president of the United States, to call him an Uncle Tom?” Capehart asked Stein during an editorial board meeting with Stein.
“I would never do that,” Stein stated. “I can assure people that his vision is essentially my vision, and that he agrees with the details of our policy proposals period. I have worked with him for many years and have never heard him use language like that, and so, it’s news to me that sometimes he does speak in that very blunt and inflammatory language.
