Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr. was released from jail this morning. The 28-year-old rapper leaves New York’s Riker’s Island after serving an eight-month sentence on a weapon’s charge.
Wezzy will head straight to Miami, where his managers have said a party is being planned to celebrate his return for Sunday. A blurry picture of the “Young Money” front man can be seen here.
The rapper pled guilty a year ago to attempted weapon possession, admitting that he loaded a semiautomatic .40-caliber gun on his tour bus after a 2007 show. Wezzy was then sentenced to a year at Riker’s, officially going into prison in March.
During his incarceration, Lil Wayne’s I Am Not a Human Being album hit number one on the billboard charts. The album was released online on his 28th birthday in September.
“I was never scared, worried nor bothered by the situation,” Wezzy blogged to fans, while still jailed on Tuesday via Wezzythanxyou.com, a site set up to give his fans a look into his jailed life.
Hopefully this will be his last time in jail, and one of the last rappers, period, going to prison. It’s getting old.
