Today is a big day for the Jackson family. The King of Pop releases his first posthumous single, “Breaking News,” from upcoming album Michael in stores December 15; Katherine and Joe Jackson, along with Michael’s children Prince, Paris and Blanket, appear on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” today; and now the Jackson Five—including Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Randy, with the help of Michael’s still-booming estate—launches a clothing line called J5, according to WWD.
The first collection of J5 will hit retailers like Urban Outfitters and Kitson in the spring. The line includes replica styles of iconic Michael looks like his “Beat It” and “Thriller” jackets, along with t-shirts and trousers ranging from $32 to $600.
Jackie Jackson tells WWD, “The jackets are incredible. They are the real thing. I didn’t really think of them as tributes to Michael in the beginning, but that’s what they are. They represent everything he stood for and everything he’s done in this industry, 100 percent.”
Reports reveal that the siblings began work on the line a week after Michael’s untimely death. Jackie says that they have wanted to do a collection for a long time. “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. I’ve seen other friends be successful with their lines, like Puffy with Sean John. I’ve been in this business for a long time and our name is known around the world.”
The group plans to add footwear and glasses in the future.
