A pair of lips are all you need to play the Queen of Soul in a movie.

In early January, Aretha Franklin announced through a phoner on the Wendy William show that a biopic film would be made about her life and suggested that actress Halle Berry might play the lead. However, the Sunday of the Golden Globes, Berry politely declined, claiming that she doesn’t have the vocal capability to act as Franklin in a biographical film.

“If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice,” Berry told E! News.

Franklin is still holding on. She wrote into the Wendy Williams Show on Monday to make an appeal to Berry.

“Many actors have portrayed vocalists by lip-synching to the artist’s original recordings,” Franklin wrote. Williams read the note aloud on her show.

Berry has yet to comment.

Does Aretha even know how pathetic she looks begging someone to play her in a biopic? As an Aretha fan, I’m embarrassed for her.

There are so many unknowns out there who would probably do her justice. I guess she doesn’t want someone that’ll look like her.

LOL!!!! Halle doesn’t want to play Aretha! it’s funny because Halle played Dorothy Dandridge, whom was also a actress/singer!! and of course Ms. dangrigde was BEAUTIFUL… Halle and Aretha look nothing alike. So Aretha STOP trying and ask Jennifer Hudson!

Cuz, Halle ain’t putting on NO fat suit. LMAO!

FAIL! JHud isn’t plus-sized anymore. She better start begging Latifah. SMH

@Cakes. J-Hud’s appropriateness for the role has little to do with her new size (although obviously she would be more conceivable/believable as a plus sized woman than Halle Berry would ever be). Jennifer also has that soulfulness that Halle could never pull off effectively. I could totally see Jennifer doing justice to “RESPECT” or “Rock Steady”–something that I definitely couldn’t envision Halle doing.
