Move Over Basketball Wives, VH1 just announced that it’ll be airing yet another show that makes women look like money-hungry, crazy b*tches! Hurray!
(Ugh. I hope I’m wrong)
The network known for such uplifting programming as “Basketball Wives” and “Flavor of Love” is penning its hopes on a new reality series starring some of hip-hop’s finest significant others. During the 2011 Television Critics Association winter presentation the reality TV giant said it would be adding the show “Love & Hip-Hop” to its primetime lineup in March.
The new “docu-soap” was green-lighted for eight episodes and will feature Jim Jones’ girlfriend, Chrissy Lampkin and Fabolous’ girlfriend, Emily Bustamante as they attempt to get their commitment-phobic men to take a stroll to the alter. Good luck with that.
“Love & Hip-Hop,” which will be premiering March 21, will also feature former G-unit artist Olivia and Salvadorian beauty, Somaya “Boss” Reese, as they try to get some respect and be taken seriously as female artists in a male dominated industry.
With shows like “Basketball Wives,” “Football Wives,” and the entire “Real Housewives…” series, I guess being the woman behind the (mildly successful) man is still big business. Personally, I’m just waiting for this whole trend of spousal/jump-off reality shows to jump the shark.
