It seems like rabid anti-abortion activists continue to push people’s buttons. On the heels of their controversial billboards insisting, “The most dangerous place for African-Americans is in the womb,” Life Always is back with another controversial ad—this time featuring President Obama.

The ad, which argues, “Every 21 minutes, our next possible leader is aborted,” will be unveiled in the President’s adopted hometown of Chicago, as well as 30 other locations around the country.

Many were outraged at the larger-than-life-sized billboard that appeared last month in New York’s tony SoHo neighborhood, and I’m sure this ad will also rub many—including our pro-choice President—the wrong way.

Although many may wonder why Life Always continues to play the race card and attack Black women’s reproductive rights when producing these advertisements, Life Always board member Rev. Derek McCoy argues:

“Our future leaders are being aborted at an alarming rate … These are babies who could grow to be the future Presidents of the United States, or the next Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington or Maya Angelou.”

Ironically, the President, Oprah and Maya Angelou have all indicated that they are supporters of a woman’s right to choose, but I guess that doesn’t jive with the billboard’s message.

One thing is clear, however. The purpose of these billboards isn’t to persuade a woman to keep an unwanted pregnancy, but rather to garner attention by continuing to create such controversial ad campaigns.

What do you think? Should Life Always use President Obama’s image in their anti-abortion campaign? Sound off!

They’re doing whatever they can to get attention by any means necessary; and it’s working.
I would like to ask McCoy, what about the large percentage of non-abortions that end up on the opposite end of his claim.
But I’m sure he already knows. He’s just saying what he wants to believe.

The same argument is used about criminals and the large percentage they make in America’s Black population. Everyday a Black criminal is born, and he/she’s life has become so predictable, no one is shocked at their outcomes anymore. (Ex: “So typical” remarks)

Some people continually bring up Sanger/eugenics and all else related, disregarding that no one is holding a gun to the heads of Black women making them get abortions.
Black women have still have some of the highest birth rates in this country.

And what if contraceptives were being used at a high rate, causing less births? Would they still have the same concern? Would some people still bring up Sanger?

And don’t shoot me, but we all know what Obama’s mother looked like. So I guess this is not just targeted at Black women like it seems.

    • @Alexandra: It’s most definitely targeted at Black women because these billboards were placed in Black communities ONLY. Not in neighborhoods with predominantly white and non-Black populations.

‘Life Always’ came to a depressed, low-income, urban neighborhood that is almost 100% Black and placed these billboards. And they plan to place them throughout Chicago in other Black neighborhoods.

And in New York, although the billboards were in the high-end SoHo area, another set of their billboards used a huge picture of an African American girl, with words claiming that a Black woman’s womb was “the most dangerous place” for an African American child.

Their is evidence these people are tied to the Tea Party, which has been show to be severely racist, and some ‘Black conservative’ GOP candidates were on hand to unveil the billboards. http://stop-the-media-smear-of-black-women.blogspot.com/2011/04/black-women-in-chicago-stand-up-to-life.html#more

So no doubt, this particular campaign/smear tactic is definitely targeting Black women only.

I don’t think there’s a problem unless Obama doesn’t consent to his image being used, other than that, I think these ads serve to keep women like me aware that my decision is not only about my body but the future as well. People like Stephen Hawking, the photographer I know (product of rape), people in my class (some mistakes), you, your friends, your parents, and so on, people who are contributing substantially to society, would be dead if the mother decided to abort. I think the ads serve as a nugget to think about before deciding to abort a life.

Again if you’re pro-choice that means you’re pro-abort and pro-life, if these celebs are fine with their faces being used then that’s their decision.

    • Any women who has been raped has the right to choose whether she has a rapists child or not – it’s up to her to abort or to carry and give birth.

But I for one would be completely open to aborting any pregnancy initiated by the demonic and evil monsters more commonly known as rapists. The thought of giving birth for a rapist is the most disgusting and vile thing I can think of – a rapist has already violated and destroyed a woman – why give him anymore? But that’s just my opinion.

When people advocate against aborting exclusively with the argument that you may end up with a wonderful child tend to completely disregard the fact that you could also be giving birth to the next Hitler, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, or the Cleveland, Texas rapists.

Plus, just the thought of further violating health, body, spirit, and mentality for a demon rapists is the most is evil, disgusting and vile thing to have to be forced to do – if you do not want to abort, that is OK, your choice. But if you are totally banned from aborting a rapist’ child – that’s just pure evil.

I feel that the only people that advocate a woman having a rapists’ baby are probably rapists, or potential rapists themselves.

Rapists should be dealt harshly with just like pedophiles and serial killers.

Well Obama was fine with his image being commandered by Ms, Magazine in promotion of their “This is What a Feminist Looks Like”. I Don’t care how he feels about his image being used. They can always work around it if they choose but it was a smart way to get publicity. I think it’s important that these black anti-abortion organizations keep pushing the envelope just as the Pro-Abortionist do year after year. As a New Yorker I’ve literally had to stop even considering sex here. The women (in particluar black women) have seemed to have completely lost any and all morals. Oddly, they comprise the majority of the church members. As you would expect, the church never brings up this moral issue. Now it’s escape from NY as tons of blacks are fleeing Democratic states and I along w/ them. I love my home but I realize I can’t stand the morals. I guess I’m a Conservative now. And I’m not mad at all about it. I’m just upset I didn’t realize how screwed up these liberals states had actually become. I’ll be sending donations to this LifeAlways group and pray for their safety. Black women are EXTREMELY intolerant of Shame as they have been out of practice the last 40 yrs in experiencing it. Constantly putting the attention on black men has lowered black womens ability to tolerate shame. They’ll fight to the death rather than look like murderous, irresponsible jump-offs…which they are!

Maybe Obama didn’t have a problem with the Ms. cover because he *gasp* actually supports women’s causes; moreover, he has made it clear that he is Pro-Choice. Sure it was good for publicity, there’s no denying that; the question is whether it was appropriate, not whether it was effective. I don’t understand why you equate being Pro-Choice with being immoral. Pro-Choice is not in support of killing babies; that viewpoint is ignorant and sensationalized. Pro-Choice is exactly what the name implies, in support of a woman’s Choice. America is not a theocracy; no person’s religious beliefs should have any bearing on the choices of the next person. Period.

On another note, I find it interesting that you have cast the burden of morality on black women, who have apparently lost it (especially those Church women). You say that you have had to “stop even considereing sex” in NYC, implying that at one point you were considering it, yes? I am by no means a Biblical scholar, but my Sunday School memory seems to suggest that any and all sex out of wedlock is immoral. So. . . how can you tout your circumstancial celibacy (which you don’t seem pleased with btw) as the moral high ground? And yes there is attention on black men because someone is sleeping with these “murderous, irresponsible jump-offs”. If you’re going to say that people should be ashamed of themselves for their loose ways, which is highly judgmental and not truly the sentiment of Christianity (“Judge not lest ye be judged” anyone?), then at least be an equal opportunity Judge. It takes two to tango.

” Pro-Choice is not in support of killing babies; that viewpoint is ignorant and sensationalized. Pro-Choice is exactly what the name implies, in support of a woman’s Choice. ”

Excuse me Pro-Abortionist. I care about our future. You have the choice to kill. I have the choice to condemn both black women and Obama for their genocidal intentions. Yoou have the choice to ignore it.

“On another note, I find it interesting that you have cast the burden of morality on black women, who have apparently lost it ”

All that birth control ava. to black women vs. the choices ava to men shows the burden of morality is INDEED in black womens courts and they’ve failed horribly. The “irresponsible black men” deflection campaign was only going to work for so long hon.

” am by no means a Biblical scholar, but my Sunday School memory seems to suggest that any and all sex out of wedlock is immoral. So. . . how can you tout your circumstancial celibacy (which you don’t seem pleased with btw) as the moral high ground? ”

I think black women should start Rap groups laying down how they “mow these black infants down”. Get the right beat and it could become the NEXT BIG THING!!! And excuse me, moral advice from baby killers just ain’t wise.

“If you’re going to say that people should be ashamed of themselves for their loose ways, which is highly judgmental and not truly the sentiment of Christianity (“Judge not lest ye be judged” anyone?), then at least be an equal opportunity Judge. It takes two to tango.”

You wanna start get into the other parts of the bible that black women have rejected?
If it takes two to “Tango”? And only one to make use of all that female BC options right? The person withthe most options to avoid pregnancy is obviously to more responsible party. Black women are “Thrilled” w/ Abortion Honor Killings. The other BC options? not so much. SICKENING behavior. Two to “Tango”? Then of course I have the right to decide whether you have an Abortion or not and to have you criminally prosecuted for violations.

    Cluebat,
    SLAP. lol.
