Guilty confession: there are more than a few days when I write out “ROFL” or “hahaaa!” while sporting nothing but a big old sour face. But yesterday when I came across the Twitter account for @BronxZoosCobraI literally “LOL”-ed.

While worried Bronx Zoo staff are busy releasing live mice as bait to lure him back, the now infamous cobra’s story has became comedy material for New Yorkers on Twitter and beyond.

In real life, a missing 20-inch venomous snake is probably no laughing matter but for those tuning into his online antics- it is all in good fun.

Using the hashtag, #snakeonthetown and talking with his buddies @BronxZooKeeper, the Twitter Cobra has been all over New York City enjoying Ray’s pizza, this morning even grabbing coffee at one of the city’s breakfast trucks. My favorite tweet from new favorite follow so far?

Since starting the account yesterday afternoon, the snake’s twitter has gained over 120,000 followers.  No one knows who is behind the timeline of the Bronx Zoo’s missing cobra just that who ever is sending out these tweets has us dying with laughter.  Showing a familiarity with New York life and the ridiculous aspects of celebrity culture, @BronxZoosCobra’s adventures are a non-stop one-man show.

I came across his/her twitter page and I couldn’t help but laugh because his/her tweets are quite funny. I can just imagine whoever is typing them probably laughs hysterically to themselves.

I’m like you, Leslie–every time i read about this mess i actually crack up out loud. This one is my favorite:

‘City may not sleep, but I’m ready to,’ a tweet read today. ‘Ooh a chimney! I bet you bragged to your friends about having a working fireplace in NYC. Hi roomie.’
