Yesterday, the singer was back in her hometown of Philadelphia filming the video for her soon to be released track “Shame.” The song will be the lead single off Jill’s upcoming album, The Light of the Sun. News that the soultress was back at work lifted the hearts of fans who have been anticipating a new album from the woman behind such hits as “My Love,” “A Long Walk,” and the classic, “He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat).”
But the filming at the Cecil B. Moore Recreation was extra special for members of the Philadelphia community. Many of them had watched in recent years as the community center came to the brink of being shut down. For Jill the possibility of the center closing was not one she was willing to accept as she had attended often as a young girl growing up. The singer stepped in and used her Blues Babe Foundation to help restore the center. It is currently back in use by the community and served as the backdrop for yesterday’s gymnasium themed filming.
Several of Philly’s finest were on hand for the filming of the ‘Shame’ video including Peedi Crakk, Eve, Ms. Jade, and Black Thought of The Roots. Brooklyn native, Mos Def also came through to show his support for Jill as well.
The singer made new last month when it was announced, she would be leaving her long time home, Hidden Beach Records for the recording giant Warner Brothers Records. Though the transition is still fresh, Jill has wasted no time getting things settled and is ready to give fans the music they love. A release date for The Light of the Sun’s has not been set as yet, but Warner Brothers says the album will be released sometime later this year.
We love that Jill is still Jilly from Philly and willing to use her success to benefit others. It’s going to be great hearing some new material from our girl- it’s been far too long!
