It’s sad that it had to come to this, but today the White House released an official copy of President Obama’s long form birth certificate, responding to the birthers and nearly half of Republicans that have doubts about President Obama’s birthplace.

During a press conference in the White House briefing room, White House press secretary Jay Carney handed out copies of the president’s “long form” birth certificate showing he was born in Hawaii.

The kerfuffle over the President’s birthplace was stoked by the fact that only President Obama’s certificate of live birth was released, which is common practice in the state of Hawaii. As a matter of fact, the President had to get special permission to have the official long form copy released from a vault in his home state.

During the press conference this morning, President Obama took both the media and Republicans to task for jumping on this distracting issue.

“Normally, I would not comment on something like this – I’ve got other things to do,” the President said.

He continued:

“We’ve got some enormous challenges out there” which the country can’t meet . . . if we are distracted or if we spend time vilifying each other – if we just make stuff up and pretend that it’s fact.”

He added: “We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do.”

The President also took a jab at Donald Trump and other birthers, saying we cannot be “distracted by side shows and carnival barkers.”

Never one to shun a news camera, Donald Trump took credit for today’s release of President Obama’s birth certificate saying, “I’m very proud that I was able to bring it to this point,” Trump said. “I am really honored and I am really proud that I was able to do something that no one else was able to do.” However, he also expressed doubt and said he’d still need to inspect the birth certificate, “but hopes it’s true.”

Although many political pundits feel President Obama could have let this issue linger and continue scoring points with the vast majority of voters who write birthers off as crazy, the President no longer wants this issue to be a distraction from the bigger issues—unemployment, two wars, the mounting deficit—that face out country today.

What do you think? Will releasing President Obama’s birth certificate silence his haters? Sound off!

  • The one thing that sucks about being number 1 in the world is that you have no who can check you on your faults, and threaten you to do better.

With stuff like this, it’s sad. People want to see Obama’s transcript, grades, and are inquiring if he’s a product of affirmative action.

Sigh, someone posted this and I agree:

” I hope everyone has learned a lesson about the meaning of “white privilege”…this is why you hear black people (whose ancestors have probably been here since before the Puritans) say they do not feel “American”…It’s because even if you’re president of the United States of A-gotdamn-Merica you are treated like you do not belong. :::hair toss…jumps off soapbox::: “

I strongly disagree. Just because someone is ignorant and feels that you are not American or do not treat you as such….does not undo what you are.

It is sad that soo many people feel disenfranchised @ this time in history when there is soo much to take opportunity.

I completely understand how you arrive at those feelings, however I choose to side with my ancestors that died so that I can know that I am American regardless of what a growing minority that sees the end to their cherry pie and picket fence lifestyle giving away to the browning of America. We have proven that we are strong and I will hold on to that legacy and pass it down to my son.

  • Mr. Obama did very well i hope now Donald Trump will calm up i think this matter will ends with this action (Release of Obama’s birth certificate).

The release of his birth certificate is just the beginning of things to come. These birther/pseudo tea party drinkers-they sure as hell ain’t sippin tea, it’s crack- will be asking for a release of his personal bank statements to ensure his not embazzling funds to offshore accounts. I tell ya, being a BLACK President in America is a telling revelation in itself of how some of the majority in this country feel about minorities in power.

When i look at those nutjob tea partiers/birthers/etc, I see the same ugly, venomous, frothing at the mouth faces of those mobs who brutalized peaceful marchers and children during the civil rights movement.

I wonder who told this Trump a-hole to throw his toupee in the ring. And now he wants to say ‘i heard he wasn’t a good student’ in reference to our brilliant President?! He and his ilk know very well President Obama is an exceptional human being, and it’s killing them.

This has been extremely disappointing to me.

I think the best way we can show our disagreement is to tune out “The Celebrity Apprentice” (if you were watching that mess in the first place).

It offends me greatly that Donald Trump is essentially calling our President the “N-Word” while making cash off Star vs. NeNe. I’m tired of watching arguing black women in these reality shows… yet people continue to flock to these negative portrayals again and again and again.
It’s got to stop and we should demand better.

And he’s doing all this… for what? He’s not running and this BS about waiting until his show’s season finale? NBC already knows if the show has been renewed and they’re essentially complicit in letting this farce continue.
It’s May sweeps right now. Don’t give “Apprentice” your viewership.
