Yesterday on Oprah, Salt-n-Pepa took the stage to perform all their hits- well, most of them.
With the exception of “Let’s Talk About Sex,” the hip-hop duo gave new life to a slew of their old hits. Salt and Pepa performed “Whatta Man,” “Shoop,” and “Push It.”
The lady rappers were one of several acts invited by Oprah to appear for the show’s ‘Rock Godesses’ episode. Other guests included, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus, Pat Benatar and Avril Lavigne. Sister Sledge was also on hand, breaking out the classic “We Are A Family”.
Backed by Spinderella, Salt-n-Pepa rocked the crowd and some leather outfits as well. The women were both thrilled with being on Oprah’s show given their humble roots. During the show Pepa thought back, explaining to Oprah the duo’s start:
“We actually met in school. We were going to college. I was looking for a job and [Salt] was working upstairs handing out applications in the lunchroom, and I was like, ‘Girl, I need a job!’”
Salt said the entire journey still felt surreal:
“We were telephone solicitors at Sears Roebuck and Martin Lawrence worked there, Kid ‘N Play, and Salt-N-Pepa at the same time,” she reminisced. “And now we’re on Oprah!”
Oprah’s audience loved the duo and their performance showed that no matter how many years since their hey day, they’ve still got it.
