After a rocky start, this year is turning into a pretty good year for Black films. Along with Ava DuVernay’s gripping film, I Will Follow, Dee Rees’ coming of age story, Pariah, and Salim Akil’s romantic comedy, Jumping the Broom, writer and radio host Russ Parr is giving us yet another reason to hit the theater this Spring.
According to Shadow and Act, Parr’s film, 35 & Ticking, will center on a group of friends who are quickly approaching 35 and are nervous as hell because they aren’t living their dream lives.
Peep S&A’s synopsis of the story:
Victoria (Tamala Jones), Zenobia (Nicole Ari Parker), Cleavon (Kevin Hart), and Phil (Keith Robinson), 4 friends approaching the age of 35, are all struggling to build the families they’ve always dreamed of. While Zenobia is still looking for a man, Victoria is married to a man who doesn’t want children. Clevon, meanwhile, is too geeky to get a woman, and Phil is already married with children, but his wife is not very interested in being a mother. All four of them try to rectify their romantic lives and futures while their biological clocks tick away.
Not only does the story seem quite relatable, but also the trailer was enjoyable to watch and made me want to see the film.
Russ Parr’s film, 35 & Ticking, is scheduled to be released this May—so keep your eyes pealed.
