Last week TBS announced it was canceling Tyler Perry’s popular sitcom House of Payne and ordering up 10 episodes of his newest project, For Better or Worse.
For Better or Worse is based on Perry’s successful film, Why Did I Get Married? and follows the trials and tribulations of marriage for two of the film’s most memorable characters—Marcus and Angela.
Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith are set to reprise their roles for the sitcom, and it is set to begin filming this summer at Perry’s Atlanta studios.
Unlike Perry’s other family-orientated sitcoms for TBS, For Better or Worse will target a younger demographic, bringing in even more viewers to the network.
Although this marks the end of Perry’s popular flagship series, House of Payne, he is excited about what’s to come.
“Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to House of Payne, I’m really looking forward to exploring new territory with For Better or Worse,” said Tyler Perry. “Working on House of Payne taught me a lot about what it takes to make a successful television series and I’m looking forward to applying that experience to For Better or Worse.”
Love him or hate him, one thing is clear: Tyler Perry stays grinding and employing a host of Black actors in the process.
