After more than a decade in the game, Jill Scott’s “Light of The Sun” has finally given the star her first week No. 1 album debut for first week of sales.

Our favorite Philly chanteuse landed on top of Billboard charts with her new release “The Light of The Sun.” According to Nielsen SoundScan, Jill’s new album sold over 135,000 units in its first week. After a label change and four years since her last studio album, ‘Light’ was highly anticipated by fans.

The anticipation behind Jill’s new release and the quality of her new material gave her the edge over buzzed about rocker and “Monster” singer Bon Iver. Adele, another soultress proved to be hanging strong at number three with her album ’21.’

‘Light of The Sun’ has largely been met by positive reviews, with some calling this Jill’s best effort since her 2000 debut, “Who is Jill Scott? Vol. 1.”

Griff Fuller Jr of Sputnik Music gave Jill’s latest effort 4.5 out of 5 stars, writing:

“She has always been a shining example of creativity in urban music, and will remain to be the light in a music industry that grows darker and darker in quality and substance.”

We’d have to agree.

Congrats to Jill on reaching this career milestone- its long overdue!

The album is hot and it’s about time. Debuting her new look and amping up her marketing efforts certainly helped. My only issue with the album is that it didn’t include the bonus tracks. No biggie, I’ll just but them on I-tunes.
