Montell Jordan’s 1995 hit “This Is How We Do It” has deftly replaced “The Electric Slide,” as the everybody-on-the-floor song at weddings and birthday parties. When I lived in Europe my roommate had a Montell Jordan CD collection that resembled the kind of physical space an American music lover would give to, say, Usher, so in spite of our stateside-centric view that he’s a wash-out, the man has been recording new music well beyond his shout outs to the summertime skirts and the guys in Kani. What’s been up with him lately? You guessed it, gospel. As much as I often think that turning to gospel is code for “my mortgage is getting a little bit steep,” Montell Jordan’s gospel album drops on September 20th and it looks like he’s praising the lord while staying true to his hip-hop/r&b roots with this single “Shake Heaven.”

What say ye, Clutchettes?

People forget about his song “Let’s Ride.” That still is one of my favorite tracks of all-time. I hope his comeback goes well.

    • No,we haven’t forgotten about that tune.It was so good.
As far as the comeback goes,he should probably just sit down and write some songs.

I do not like it at all!! overproduced, meaningless lyrics, weak vocals. I’m all for gospel done right but that was a really annoying song. disappointed.

I think it’s alright. I can listen to it. I like Beckah Shae, too.
