She cried in Grant Park the night he was elected, and Oprah is ready to see President Obama get a second term.

As the President’s 50th birthday passed, the media mogul offered up her support for his re-election campaign. In a statement yesterday, Oprah said:

“I supported Barack Obama in 2008 because I believed then as I do now that he is the right man for the job. I wanted to share my enthusiasm for his candidacy in hopes that others would see what I saw in him.”

She continued:

“As for 2012. If the campaign needs me, I’m happy to be of service. I’m in his corner for whatever he needs me to do.”

Oprah has long been friends with the Obamas, inviting the First Couple to her show as well as breaking her tradition of solo O Magazine covers to pose with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Abby Phillips from POLITICO points out that Oprah could be an even more potent force for Obama as he runs to stay in the White House. She writes:

Though Winfrey’s media domain no longer includes her hit show with its audience of millions, some analysts say she could be an even more potent force in Obama’s reelection because she can focus on his record rather than his potential. Those analysts say she could boost his appeal with Democratic women, particularly white, working-class women.

In the 2008 race, much was made about Hollywood’s love of Obama. From lavish Los Angeles Fundraisers to Will.I.Am music videos and subsequent Boondock’s music video spoofs, it was clear that the Democratic candidate was the one that drew out the stars.  While having the support of stars is all well and good, the more important question heading into election season will be does he have yours?

Tell us what you think Clutchettes and gents- are you planning to support President Obama as he runs for re-election? Did you support him the first time around? Weigh in with your thoughts- let’s discuss!

Well done Opera. This is the best President I’ve had in my lifetime and definitely the least boring. He makes politics cool.

I supported and helped President Obama get elected in 2008. I will do whatever I can to get him re-elected. He has my full support.
