From VIBE Vixen — Fortunately, Shaunie O’Neal is finally peeping the negative light surrounding her executive produced lovechild Basketball Wives. The ex-wife of famed b-baller Shaq has realized just how negatively the concept of the show has turned but claims that was never the original plan.
She tells FOX411: “When I started the show I really just wanted to follow this group of ladies around. We all have a common bond; we understand each other’s lives. It started as that. Since then, it’s taken on a life of its own. I never imagined it would be a group of ladies fighting and arguing that way that they do. That was never part of the plan.”
The show, as you should know unless you’ve been living under a rock, follows seven women (Shaunie O’Neal, Evelyn Lozada, Suzie Ketcham, Royce Reed, Tami Roman, Meeka Claxton and Jennifer Williams) who were former wives, girlfriends and jumpoffs (depending who you ask) of players in the NBA. While O’Neal wanted to showcase the common bond between the ladies and how their lives were evolving, the show quickly became a must-see, hour-long stint of hair pulling, drink throwing and neck rolling drama… every week.
