Sunday, First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Jill Biden were booed by NASCAR fans as they served as honorary starters of the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden received a standing ovation from the drivers at a ceremony before the start of the race, but the fans weren’t too keen on the ladies as the race began.

Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden were on hand to honor veterans, a cause that Mrs. Obama has taken up since coming to the White House.
At a lunchen before the race, Mrs. Obama spoke of her and Biden’s Joining Forces Initiative, which aims to support military vets as they return from combat. During the luncheon, Mrs. O told NASCAR drivers, “I know this is a big day for all of you so we’re not going to take up your time because you need to be focused. We just wanted to stop by and say thank you. NASCAR has just been amazing in terms of its support not just today, but everyday of military families.
Mrs. Obama continued, “What Joining Forces is trying to do is rally the country to make sure these families feel the same kind of support from this country they’ve given us. One percent of our country serves and they protect the freedoms of the other 99 percent of us.”
Despite the disrespect from some of the NASCAR fans, Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden took it in stride and never lost their cool. Class personified.
Do you think NASCAR fans were disrespectful or just exercising their free speech?
