Perhaps it’s more appropriate to say that Miami Heat star LeBron James brought in the New Year with a minor shockwave. Although the baller turned 27 on Friday, he held a throw down on New Year’s Eve to celebrate his new year, the advent of 2012 and used the festive platform to propose to his high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson. The mother of their young sons, LeBron Jr., 7, and Bryce, 4 accepted the proposal, possibly rivaling the excitement brought on by the New Year count down itself. Friends of the couple have already taken to Twitter to give their best wishes:

“Happy for my brother @KingJames and sis @SavannahRB on their engagement!!! Extremely happy for them and the good times to come,” Clippers point guard Chris Paul Tweeted.

Heat team owner Micky Arison added, “Congrats to LeBron. @KingJames and Savannah so happy 4 u guys.”

Carmelo Anthony’s wife, LaLa Vasquez, joined in celebration as well: “CONGRATS are in order!! 2012 has already come in w/a BANG!! Congrats to @KingJames and @SavannahRB on their engagement!! We love u guys!!”

Normally, I would say that most people should not get married until they are 30. By 30, you usually have your career figured out and you know who you are as a person and you’ve developed a belief system, etc. But LeBron has known Savannah for almost half his life! I think he’s more than ready. They’ve know each other for over a decade, she’s stood by his side and he stood by her. I say Congrats and good luck. Besides, its such a sweet lovestory. He’s marrying his high school sweetheart.
