black woman listening to musicI love music, always have. But most of what’s “hot” today just doesn’t do it for me. If I’m not listening to public radio, you can catch me listening to a mixture of “old school” hip hop and R&B from the golden era of the ’90s and (very) early 2000s.

Despite some of my favorite songs being upwards of 20 years old (wow…times flies), they STILL knock.

Whenever I hear LLCoolJ’s ‘Round the Way Girl,’ Jodeci’s ‘U & I,’ and Special Ed’s ‘I Got It Made,’ I can’t help but go into “that’s my song!” mode. At the end of last year I went to a 90s party and danced till my feet hurt and my dress was soaked with sweat. It was serious.

Recently I flipped my iTunes on shuffle and Brownstone’s ‘If You Love Me’ came up and I couldn’t help but belt my heart out. It felt good.

How about you?

What “old school” (and I use that term loosely) songs make you scream out “that’s my jam!” and start dancing?
