I love music, always have. But most of what’s “hot” today just doesn’t do it for me. If I’m not listening to public radio, you can catch me listening to a mixture of “old school” hip hop and R&B from the golden era of the ’90s and (very) early 2000s.
Despite some of my favorite songs being upwards of 20 years old (wow…times flies), they STILL knock.
Whenever I hear LLCoolJ’s ‘Round the Way Girl,’ Jodeci’s ‘U & I,’ and Special Ed’s ‘I Got It Made,’ I can’t help but go into “that’s my song!” mode. At the end of last year I went to a 90s party and danced till my feet hurt and my dress was soaked with sweat. It was serious.
Recently I flipped my iTunes on shuffle and Brownstone’s ‘If You Love Me’ came up and I couldn’t help but belt my heart out. It felt good.
How about you?
What “old school” (and I use that term loosely) songs make you scream out “that’s my jam!” and start dancing?
