“A lot of people refuse to do things because they don’t want to go naked, don’t want to go without guarantee. But that’s what’s got to happen. You go naked until you die.” –Nikki Giovanni
I don’t know about you, but I want to live an exceptional life. I’ve never really been like everyone else; I’ve always been just a little bit different. So living a “normal,” ho-hum, mediocre life just isn’t my goal.
Like most people I don’t want to look back longingly and think about what could have been. I want to remember all of the extraordinary days of my life. But living life on purpose takes courage. And sometimes, it’s easier to do what’s expected of me than to branch out and follow my dreams.
Yesterday I was researching and planning for one of the projects on which I’m working. I realized it would take a significant amount of cash for me to do it the way I really want. For a moment, I questioned myself and asked if it’s really worth it, but then I realized it totally is. Not only do I think it’ll add value to other people’s lives, but I also don’t want to look back and kick myself for not pursing my passion. So I’m all in.
Too often we have these big, scary dreams and fail to pursue them because we have to be exposed in some way. Perhaps we’ll have to be vulnerable, or we’ll have to work harder than we ever have before to make it happen. Whatever is holding you back from your ideal life is merely a distraction. Know that. If you’re willing to “go naked” and put it all on the table for yourself and your dreams, you’ll not only be closer to reaching them, but you’ll feel more alive in the process, too.
