Over the weekend, four women were shot in the Dorchester section of Boston while they sat in an SUV, in what turned out to be one of the bloodiest weekends of the year.
So far, two of the victims have been identified, Sharrice Perkins, 22, and Kristen “Kae” Lartey, a contributor to CLUTCH’s content partner,Vibe Vixen. Perkins, an engineering student at a local community college, and Larty died shortly after being shot. A third woman died on Monday afternoon, and the last woman, who was expected to survive, later passed away.
Police are currently searching for a white SUV caught on surveillance cameras near the scene shortly before the shooting, but police have yet to make an arrest. According to Police Commissioner Ed Davis, the city had a “relatively uneventful summer” until now.
City Council member Charles Yancey called the attack cowardly.
“This cowardice attack against four women cannot stand. So I’m asking all of the residents of this area who has any information to provide it immediately to the police so that these characters can be taken off the streets,” he said.
Neighborhood residents said the area where the women were shot has become increasingly violent, but no one expected something like this to occur.
For the women’s families, the losses are heartbreaking. Perkins’ mother tearfully told reporters her daughter “was a beautiful girl” and that she “misses her so much.”
Out thoughts are with the women’s families.
