A primary school in Carson, California is shutting down after parents found out 4 and 5-year-old students were allegedly engaging in sexual activity.
ABC News reported that inappropriate activity has been going on at First Lutheran Church. Greg Owens, attorney of the victims, said that students were giving each other oral sex in a tunnel slide on the playground and outside of a bathroom. According to Owens, the cause of the situation came from the lack of administrative control.
“It all boils down to a lack of supervision,” Owen told ABC. “There were times when teachers would let aides in the room for hours at a time to watch the kids. During nap time, the aides would be sleeping and the children would have been molesting each other during this time.”
One parent said he found out about the acts after his 4-year-old son told him about “all the bad things” that a 5-year-old girl was doing to him. “It went down in the classroom, it went down in the bathroom, and it went down out on the playground,” Richard McCarthy said.
He also says that he currently hasn’t decided to place his son in another school.
“There’s no way I can just take him to another school and be that parent that just lets a predator loose,” he said. “How else do you explain it?”
Church leaders at the school are claiming that the closing has nothing to do with the student sex allegations. Instead, they are pointing to the resignation of the school principal as the cause of the shutdown.
The California Department of Social Services has cited the school for at least one of the alleged sexual acts and an improper student-teacher ration, ABC News reports.
