The divorce and custody battle between Deion and Pilar Sanders has gotten a little resolution. Yesterday a Texas judge awarded Deion full custody of his two sons, ages 11 and 13, and joint custody of his 9-year-old daughter. Deion will have the sole right to determine where his three children live, and will make all educational, health and extracurricular decisions for his two sons, ages 11 and 13, and share that responsibility for his 9-year-old daughter with his estranged wife, Pilar Sanders.
“I’m thankful; I’m elated,” the father said before leaving the courthouse in McKinney. “In any war, there will be casualties, but I didn’t want the casualties in this case to be my kids.”
Pilar on the other hand told reporters she was “flabbergasted” at the result of the trial but not surprised. Her attorney Larry Friedman said they will appeal the decision.
The aspiring actress and model said the judge did not allow testimony about the April 2012 domestic dispute that landed her in the Collin County Jail. She said her estranged husband laughed on the witness stand and showed little respect for the court.
The jury in the case consisted of 7 women and 5 men. They heard various testimonies about the involvment of both parents in their children’s extracurricular actives. Issues of both parents being self-absorbed came up, as well as Pilar’s accusations of physical abuse. It only took the jury 2 hours to return with their verdict.
