George Zimmerman was found not guilty after 16 hours of jury deliberation. The six-person jury — all white women — basically had three choices: to find Zimmerman guilty of second-degree murder; to find him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter; or to find him not guilty. During the verdict Zimmerman remained calm after it was read the he did smile as the judge left the bench, and he shook his attorneys hands.
“You have no further business with the court,” said Judge Debra Nelson, indicating he was apparently free to go.
People are angry.
Tears are being shed.
After the verdict, people outside of the courthouse could be heard chanting, “The whole system is guilty”. That is the biggest understatement ever.
