Did you know that one in three women will have an abortion in their lifetime? This is a national fact that the Advocates for Youth is using in hopes of reducing the stigma that surrounds abortion.
This week the organization launched its 1 in 3 campaign by hosting a series of events where women have been invited to share stories about abortion publically. The goal of the project is to build “a culture of empathy, justice, and support” for women’s reproductive rights. Since the launch, the group has hosted a live Facebook chat and published a compilation of abortion stories into a paperback book.
To create a sense of community, women are also asked to sign a pledge to “speak out against the shaming of women who have had an abortion” on their website.
The silence and stigma end here.
