From this day forward, I’d like to have the definition of “flawless” changed.
Right now, at this very minute, fashion designers are clamoring to dress the Kenyan star for the Oscars. Lupita Nyong’o’s breakout role in 12 Years a Slave has catapulted her to fashion icon status. Her use of colors, minimal make-up and cropped hair emphasizes her beauty even more. Bold minimalism is what’s being used to describe her look. But Nyongo’ isn’t dressing herself, she credits her stylist, Micaela Erlanger.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Nyongo’ is surprised that she’s considered a fashion icon and people are obsessed with her.
“You’re obsessed, I’m surprised! You have to wear something to these events, so I wore things, and people took to them. It was not my agenda at all! But it’s fun, and I’m flattered that everyone is digging my style. It’s great to have something to dress up for. You know, I spent three years in slacks at drama school, so now I like putting a dress on.”
Nyongo’ isn’t just beauty, but brains as well. She means she received her graduate degree in acting from the Yale School of Drama, after completing her undergrad studies at Hampshire College.
What’s next for the Brooklyn resident? Well something a little different from 12 Years A Slave. Nyong’o will play flight a attendant in the Liam Neeson thriller Non-Stop. But until then, you can catch her gracing the red carpet.
