I was a little skeptical when I heard “Annie” was getting a face lift. I pretty much thought, “How dare Hollywood screw up yet another movie from my childhood”. I can’t even count how many times I watched “Annie” as a kid. No matter what viewing, the 5th or 205th, the tear duct floodgates immediately opened. At the top of my lungs, no matter how many times people would tell me to be quiet, I would sing “Tomorrow”.
But now there’s the remake.
I paused before I hit the play button the other night. Crossed my fingers and hoped that it wouldn’t be some hot garbage. But lo and behold, it wasn’t:
You have The new Daddy Warbucks, Jamie Foxx, who now goes by “Benjamin Stacks.” The adorable Quvenzhané Wallis is of course Annie, and everyone’s favorite goofy girl next door (well at least mine), Cameron Diaz, is Miss Hannigan. There’s singing, dancing, and of course Sandy, Annie’s trusty dog sidekick, makes an appearance.
What sucks is that the movie isn’t going to be released until December 19th. So yes, the teaser definitely came out a bit early. I predict that “Annie” will be the holiday blockbuster this winter.
